From Kara & Baylee:
For those Schnauzers who enjoyed Baylee's Favorite PB & Molasses cookies, you will find the recipe below. I got it off a Viszla dog website that has other recipes I use such as the Tuna Brownies. The one thing I have found about making homemade treats is that it is hard to mess them up! Feel free to experiment...I have used chicken, beef or liver in the Tuna Brownies. I often add things that I know are good for the dogs such as grated veggies or pumpkin. I also tend to replace a good portion (if not all) the flour with whole wheat flour. Baylee is a pretty finicky eater, but she has devoured every thing that I have experimented with!!
For the "Reindeer Poop" I have a bone shaped cookie cutter that I place on my baking sheet and then press the dough into it to the desired thickness. This dough doesn't roll out very well. I have found (with the size treats I brought to the walk) that they need to bake for about 20 minutes. I turn them after 15 and put them back into the oven. They have turned out the softer consistency that I like so I can break them up into smaller pieces. Don't forget that there aren't preservatives in these, so for longer term storage keep them in the fridge or freezer.
Preheat oven to 325F degrees. Blend eggs, water & molasses. Stir in peanut butter. Add flour, 1 c. at a time. Blend well and knead in the bowl. Dough should be stiff and smooth, the consistency of Play-Doh. Take a small amount and squeeze it into a ball...about the size of a grape. The dough tends to crumble and doesn't roll well, but when you squeeze it in your hands, it gets firm and shiny, and your hands will get very oily from the peanut butter. Adjust the size of the treats to suit your pal...from rabbit poop to moose poop size! Place 1" apart on cookie sheets. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven, and turn each one over. Allow them to cool a minute or two on the cookie sheet, until they quit sizzling, then finish cooling on the counter or a plate. Store in an airtight container. Recipe make 5-6 dozen yummy, crunchy treats, depending on size.(From Deb Wall)
